I really enjoyed my time al Cenac Spanish school, I planned to only spend 3 days, I stayed A week and wish I had more time to spend.
My teacher Maria has a lot at experience in teaching Spanish and the history and politics at the city and country, for me the meetings with local organizations gave me a real insight to the realities in Nicaragua and also allowed me to practice my Spanish in a real setting. The school is very flexible and will tailor a Spanish class, the meetings and other activities to your interest sand your ability. The classes are one to one, unless you desire other wise. I highly recommend this school and my family in Estelí.

I would never think it was possible to learn as much as I have in two weeks, actually I write better Spanish than German at the moment, and I've learn German in school for 5 years! I went from not being sure how to say my name and where I come from, to being able to have a conversation, ask for help and understand goes easier than talking; I guess I need more practice. But in general I really learnt a lot more than I thought I would.
Our visit in different places has been interesting, for example the pottery makers in Condega and Xilonem.

We have been very pleased and impressed by CENAC.
The arrangements for picking us up in Managua and meetings us in Estelorked very smoothly.
Our instructor was an excellent teacher, quickly establishing the correct pace for us. Her patience was extraordinary and she showed a nice sense of the humor which made the lessons a real pleasure. Well timed coffee breaks helped us to ease the pressure of very intensive learning.
We feel we learned a lot in spite of our 68 and 64 year old memory (or lack of it) and found ourself gaining confidence in conversation.

CENAC is a very special school. Before taking classes at CENAC,
I would say I was learning Spanish. Now, I say I speak Spanish. I can finally hear the language.
My teacher was incredibly accommodating. It is easy to expand your vocabulary and language skills when you really are interested and want to participate in the conversations.
Jokes and laughter added to the fun. Having similar ages (in our fifties), my teacher and I could share experiences. We talked about growing up in Nicaragua, the war, politics, and family life.My teacher even adjusted my class schedule to my interests, such as hiking in the mountains, visiting the municipal water utilities (I'm a geologist working to protecting drinking water supplies), and bird-watching. After spending an entire class day hiking (and talking) with students, our teachers suggested that we make up the four hours we missed in class that day at another time.
To allow me more time bird-watching in the enchanting The Miraflor during a long weekend, my teacher allowed me to alter my class time the following day. There are also opportunity to visit local artisans and famous cigar factories around Estel.
I've never attended a school that was so interested in adapting to the students interests. Our teachers wanted us to know Nicaragua and to learn Spanish. I wish everyone had the opportunity to study under such understanding and dedicate tutors.

Thank you for a wonderful language, history, culture learning experience. I appreciated the emphasis on oral comprehension. It was great that the visits to NGOs and businesses were personalized to address my interest ( human rights law).
My teacher was always ready to help me get the most out of my time here and was also invaluable with logistical issues as well.

One of thing I liked most about the CENAC Spanish School was the opportunity to meet and talk with community groups and businesses a great way to increase understanding and knowledge about local, national culture and politics. I enjoyed the highly personal attention the teachers gave, and the focus on verbal communication, which quickly increases the student ability to express themselves in Spanish.
I also found the homestay excellent clean, friendly and fantastic food!

I never imagined that I could learn so much Spanish in such a short time, I am amazed at how essential an immersion program is to learning a language quickly and completely. I'm surprise at how my conversations have evolved with my host family in only a week.
The combination of class time, free time, activities and family life is perfect; the classes moved at a perfect speed just ahead of my comfort level so as to push me, but not so far out of reach that I was struggling to keep up.
My host family was wonderful, they made me feel very welcome, introduced me to friends and neighbors, sought out opportunities for me to be involved in neighborhood activities.
I can't imagine how my experience and Nicaragua could have been nearly as rewarding had I not participated in the program with cenac, I'm convinced that this is the best way to not only learn a Spanish, but to make new friends and experience a deeply rewarding cultural exchange.
